UL Type SIS Lead-Free Irradiated PE (XLPE) Hook-Up Wire
Designed for the internal wiring of switchboards, terminal boards and electronic equipment, this UL Type SIS wire uses a tinned annealed copper conductor with electron-beam cross-linked polyethylene—XLPE—insulation.
The product is rated for a maximum conductor operating temperature of 90°C and a voltage of 600V. The current catalog lists AWG 14, 12, 10 and 8 and describes heat, flame, abrasion, oil and solvent resistance together with easy termination and wiring characteristics.

When Should You Specify UL Type SIS Wire?
Consider this product when the equipment drawing or purchasing specification calls for:
- UL Type SIS wire.
- A 90°C and 600V rating.
- Electron-beam cross-linked XLPE insulation.
- Internal wiring of electronic equipment or terminal boards.
- AWG 14, 12, 10 or 8.
Do not substitute this product for UL AWM 1007, UL AWM 1015 or another UL Style based only on the voltage rating. Confirm the specified wire type or style, insulation material, temperature rating, voltage rating, conductor size, flame requirement and equipment approval conditions.
Product Features
90°C and 600V Rating
The maximum conductor operating temperature is 90°C, and the rated voltage is 600V for equipment wiring designed around these operating conditions.
Electron-Beam Cross-Linked XLPE Insulation
The wire uses electron-beam cross-linked polyethylene insulation. According to the current product catalog, the material provides good resistance to heat, water, chemicals and atmospheric corrosion.
Abrasion, Oil and Solvent Resistance
Catalog-listed characteristics include resistance to abrasion, deformation, oil and solvents, together with good tensile strength and elongation.
Easier Internal Wiring and Termination
The current catalog describes a relatively small outside diameter, low weight and easy termination and wiring characteristics, supporting internal equipment layouts.
UL VW-1 Flame-Test Description
The current product catalog states that the wire passed the UL VW-1 vertical flame test. Where formal certification documents, a UL File Number or project-specific evidence are required, include the document requirements in the RFQ.
Typical Applications
- Internal wiring of electronic equipment.
- Terminal-board wiring.
- Equipment wiring that specifies 90°C, 600V and XLPE insulation.
- Internal connections requiring a tinned copper conductor.
- Internal wiring requiring resistance to flame, abrasion, oil or solvents.
Final suitability must be confirmed against the equipment drawing, installation method, bundling condition, ambient temperature, terminal capacity and applicable safety requirements.
Conductor and Electrical Data

| 8 | 41/0.511 | 3.8 | 1.35 | 2.23 | 73.0 | 3500 |
The values above are based on the current product catalog. Catalog allowable-current values are based on an ambient temperature of 40°C in air. Actual conductor selection must also consider bundling, heat dissipation, terminal capacity, equipment drawings, installation conditions and applicable safety requirements.
UL Type SIS vs. UL AWM 1007 and UL AWM 1015
| Decision Point | UL Type SIS | UL AWM 1007 | UL AWM 1015 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Insulation Material | Irradiated cross-linked XLPE | PVC | PVC |
| Temperature Rating | 90°C | 80°C | 105°C |
| Voltage Rating | 600V | 300V | 600V |
| Primary Selection Basis | Drawing specifies UL Type SIS or XLPE insulation | Drawing specifies UL Style 1007 | Drawing specifies UL Style 1015 |
| Direct Substitution | Do not decide based only on voltage | Follow the drawing and equipment requirements | Follow the drawing and equipment requirements |
UL Type SIS, UL AWM 1007 and UL AWM 1015 have different insulation materials, temperature ratings and specification requirements. A shared voltage rating does not make different wire types or UL Styles automatically interchangeable.
Selection rule: First confirm the UL Type or UL Style specified on the equipment drawing. Then verify the temperature rating, voltage rating, conductor size, insulation material, flame requirement and equipment approval conditions.
